The economic recovery is now almost three years old, and despite its sluggish pace continues to progress. The economy has recovered nearly 4 million of the 8.8 million jobs lost during the downturn, and unemployment has been down to as low as 8.2% from highs over 10%+ a few years ago. Headline inflation (which includes energy and food) remained tame through February at 2.9%, well below the 50-year average of 4.2%. On a year-over-year basis, overall consumer price inflation fell to 2.7% in March of this year compared to 2.9% in March 2011.
